The Carnival of Palamós is considered the main winter festival of the town of Palamós. Carnival gangs start preparing their costumes many months in advance. In addition, some have a float that they must adapt to the theme they have chosen. There are many events during the week.
In this article we detail which activities are held so that you can attend the ones you like the most.
- Starting on Saturday 3rd February with the presentation of the Queen and the King of Carnival, they begin the main winter festival with a big party at the Nau dels 50 meters in Palamós.
- Then on Sunday the 4th the Pirates’ vermouth is celebrated at 12pm, in addition to the presentation of the Queen and King of the Children’s Carnival at 5pm.
- The party continues on Wednesday the 7th, where the calçotada and vesprà are held at 6pm, you can also find them at the Town Hall or in Plaça dels Arbres.
- Thursday 8th it is Gràs Thursday. The children’s street is held at 11am. At 3:00 p.m. there is a visit to the schools by the King and Queen, and at 5:30 p.m. the great children’s and youth street is celebrated.
- Friday 9th: the big Despertà at 6h. Route of the carnival floats with music through the streets of the town. At 9 a.m. there is a sausage breakfast, at 11 a.m. a visit to the Town Hall, at 12 p.m. a visit to the Municipal Market, at 1:30 p.m. a popular rice bowl and at 5 p.m. a walking tour of the town’s streets.
- Saturday 10th, the big day. At 15:30 the Grand Carnival Street begins. Once it’s over there are nightly performances in the Mur parking lot.
- On Sunday the Great morning parade is held at 11am. In the afternoon, at 6 p.m., the Palamós Home for the Elderly is visited. To end the weekend, the troupe exhibition is held at the Nau dels 50 meters, at 8pm. Here the gangs compete with each other for the best costume, best dance, and best choreography award.
- And the Carnival is not over yet. Tuesday the 13th there is the theatrical performance of the summary judgment and sentence of the court of the rota by the Testament Gang (8.30 p.m.).
- To finish, on Wednesday 14th February there is a representation of death, mourning procession, reading of the will and burial of the sardine, from 6.30 p.m.
